Settlement destinations

A settlement destination is where your money goes when it leaves us. A settlement is paid to the default destination automatically; a withdrawal names one explicitly.

The panel is reached from two places — the Settlements page header and the Withdraw form — because those are the two moments you need it.

Each row shows the account name, the bank or mobile money network, the account number or number, the currency, and two pills that matter more than anything else on the row:

Pill Meaning
Default Settlements for this currency are paid here automatically. One default per currency.
Verified / not verified Whether the bank or network has confirmed the account exists and who holds it.

Why “verified” is the most prominent thing on the row

Section titled “Why “verified” is the most prominent thing on the row”

Because a bank reports back the name it holds for that account, and it is routinely not the name that was typed. A payout to an unverified destination is the most expensive mistake available in this portal: the money goes somewhere, and it does not come back.

So an unverified row says so in words rather than by the absence of a tick — and a verified row whose confirmed name differs from the one you entered says that too. Read it. A one-character difference is a transposed account number.

Action Notes
Make default Only available once the destination is verified.
Remove Confirms first. Removing the destination a pending settlement is pointed at is not a good idea — pay it out, then remove.

Add destination opens a form. The first control changes the rest of it.

Field Applies to Notes
Type Both Bank account — settled by transfer, usually the next working day. Mobile money — settled to a wallet on a network.
Account name Both “Exactly as the bank or network holds it. We check who holds the account against your registered business name; a different name goes to our team for review.”
Bank Bank Chosen from a list. “Only banks we can pay out to are listed.”
Account number Bank —
Network Mobile money Chosen from the networks in your account’s country.
Mobile money number Mobile money International form including the country code: +233201234567.
Currency Both The currency settled to this account. One default per currency.

The two halves are genuinely different records rather than one form with spare fields: a destination cannot be half a bank account and half a wallet. Whatever you typed into the half you then switched away from is not submitted.

“This destination is PENDING while we check it. Within a few minutes we ask the bank or network who holds the account. If the name matches your registered business name it is verified automatically; if not, our team reviews it, usually within one working day.”

The row shows where it stands:

State What it means
Checking “Checking with the bank or network who holds this account. This usually takes a few minutes.”
Verified Payable. The row shows the date, and the name the bank holds if it differs from what you typed.
In review “Our team is reviewing this account: the automatic check could not confirm it belongs to your registered business. Usually within one working day.”

The check compares the account holder with your registered legal or trading name — the form names it — not with the account name you typed, because that would only check you against yourself. Letter case, spacing, punctuation, word order and single-letter initials do not matter. “An account in any other name, such as a sole proprietor’s personal account, is checked by hand by PaySigna before it is used.”

A destination cannot be made the default until it is verified. Then make it the default, if that is what you want.

From the API, a destination’s check is checking, verified or in_review.

We do not show you the name the bank returned when it differs from your business — on a mistyped number it could be a stranger’s. The usual innocent reasons:

  • A sole proprietor’s own name on the account, rather than the business name.
  • An account held jointly, or under a different registered name.

Our team checks those by hand. If the account number or wallet number was wrong, remove the row and add it again. Editing is not offered, because a half-corrected destination that is still marked verified would be worse than no verification at all.

A third kind of destination exists — a wallet held with PaySigna — and it is deliberately not offered on this form. Holding a balance with us is the default state of your money, not a destination you add. See Balances.

The panel reads with destination.read and writes — add, remove, make default — with destination.write. These are their own permissions, separate from settlement.read: a role can be allowed to see what was paid without being allowed to change where the money goes, which is the separation you want.
